Twenty-Year Collaboration Between North American and South American Retinoblastoma Programs

چکیده
Retinoblastoma is a highly curable neoplasm in the developed world. In less-developed countries, however, survival figures are lower mostly because of delayed diagnosis and poor treatment compliance. During the past decades, in middleincome countries, disease-free survival of children with retinoblastoma has improved gradually, but there are many challenges related with advanced disease at diagnosis that introduce specific considerations for management. In that setting, children present with more advanced intraocular disease that frequently needs enucleation and systemic treatment to prevent extraocular dissemination; occasionally, they present with metastatic disease that needs high-dose therapy. Unlike many other pediatric malignancies, medical evidence needed for the treatment of these children is not available from cooperative groups from higher-income countries (HICs), simply because this condition is virtually nonexistent in HICs and because limited results have been reported by cooperative groups. Thus, evidence is left to be generated in less-developed countries. In addition, eye-conservative treatment is a challenge in this setting, not only because more patients present with more advanced disease but also because of the relatively low availability of sophisticated therapies and training of specialized personnel to use local treatments.

متن کاملSubstance Use and the Number of Male Sexual Partners by African American and Puerto Rican Women
Background In the United States (US), there are 19 million new sexually transmitted disease (STD) infections each year. Untreated STDs can lead to serious long-term adverse health consequences, especially for young women. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that undiagnosed and untreated STDs cause at least 24,000 women in the US each year to become infertile. This clearly is a...

Community mortality surveillance for 1984-1988 was conducted by researchers of the Strong Heart Study, which examined the incidence, prevalence, and risk factors of cardiovascular disease in three American Indian populations, aged 45-74 years, in Arizona, Oklahoma, and South/North Dakota. All-cause and cardiovascular disease mortality rates were determined through the use of death certificate d...
متن کاملIncome Convergence toward USA: New Evidences for Latin and South American Countries
Abstract In this paper we test two versions of convergence hypothesis namely deterministic or conditional convergence and stochastic or catching up hypothesis using Carrion-i-Silvestre et al. (2005) stationary test. The results show Latin and South American countries (LSA) catching up process toward the USA failed in 1980s and somewhat in 1990s. But in 2000s most of them could lie in converge...
متن کاملAmerican Option Pricing of Future Contracts in an Effort to Investigate Trading Strategies; Evidence from North Sea Oil Exchange
In this paper, Black Scholes’s pricing model was developed to study American option on future contracts of Brent oil. The practical tests of the model show that market priced option contracts as future contracts less than what model did, which mostly represent option contracts with price rather than without price. Moreover, it suggests call option rather than put option. Using t hypothesis test...
